Brothers and sisters, if we are to follow Jesus, if we are to imitate Christ, two of our primary priorities should be private prayer and public proclamation.
Christ was not merely on a healing tour; He was on a preaching tour. The healings served to validate His preaching to the people He was reaching.
Jesus likely didn’t want His signs to overshadow what they signify. The Master’s miracles confirm the Master’s message. But it’s easy to magnify the miracles and miss the message.
Jesus did not merely seek out pitiful patients or superficial fans, but super-faithful followers. Let’s not be like those who sought Him For His works, not His words — for what He could do for them, not what they should do for Him.
People – even those who are close to us and have good intentions – can distract us from our primary purpose. We need private prayer for godly guidance. And, prayer is not merely for making divine demands, but for taking divine directions.
Jesus’ works of authority authenticate His words of authority. And after we recognize authority, we must respond accordingly. Because of Christ, we must have reordered priorities.
