Editor’s Note:

One who isn’t cross-bearing does not have real faith(fulness). They don’t have saving faith and thus are not saved.

In this passage, salvation (cf. Mk 8:35) is at stake. Those who try to save their earthly life will lose their spiritual life; and those who seek to lose their earthly life for Christ and the Gospel, will save their spiritual life.

The forfeiture of one’s soul (Mk 8:36-37) and the judgment of the Son of Man (Mk 8:38; cf. Dn 7:13-14; Jn 5:22-23; Ac 17:30-31, etc.) await those who are ashamed of Christ and His words — those who refuse to deny self, take up their cross, and follow Christ (Mk 8:34).
